What is Empower Me?
Mencap’s Empower Me service provides personalised advocacy support for people with a learning disability, helping to develop skills, confidence and knowledge needed to voice concerns and secure rights.

Who is Empower Me for?
Empower Me is for adults with a learning disability who want to speak out and be heard.

How can Empower Me support you?
We recognise that everybody is an individual with individual needs and wants that may change during their life. That’s why Mencap offers a variety of advocacy services, these include:
• One-to-one – supports individuals with issues including health and social care, employment, housing, leisure, relationships and parenting
• Group advocacy – a great way for members to develop their communication skills and voice collective concerns they face, from changes to day services to bullying and hate crime
• Non-instructed advocacy - offers advocacy support for people who are not able to request the service themselves because they have difficulty communicating or do not have the capacity to give consent.

When is Empower Me available?
Empower Me is available from 9 to 5 on weekdays. If support is required outside of these hours we will do our best to be flexible to individual needs.

Where is Empower Me available?
We offer this service to people living throughout Yorkshire and Manchester.

How can you access Empower Me?
Our service in Barnsley, Sheffield and Hull is funded directly by the local authority. In all other areas you can access Empower Me using your personal budget or other form of direct payment, or by paying with private funds.
