Description
The Tower Projects Youth and Leisure Service provide an evening service for young people with learning and/or physical disabilities between the ages of 13 - 25 years, who live in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Young people are invited to come together to share in an experience of exchanging thoughts and ideas through discussions and debates, informal education, social events, celebrations and to meet with a group of like-minded young people who are creative, innovative, and smart.
The transition into adolescence and adulthood can face many obstacles but by encouraging and providing an arena for social development and self-esteem we can empower our young people to be heard and seen in our shared society.
Our groups choose their own programme of events they would like to participate in; we meet weekly to carry out the activity leaving room for alteration or change in the schedule due to unforeseen circumstances.
The groups also hold their own forums where their voice is heard and issues arising can be put forward to the management committee. Young people take part in a range of activities both on and off site.
On site activities include the following
- arts and crafts
- educational games (which enhance the young people's numeric and literacy skills)
- basic computer skills
- lifelong learning and social skills promoting confidence and self-esteem
- debates and discussions with professionals e.g. local police, fire people and the medical field.
Alongside these structured sessions we also provide activities of snooker, sports, keep fit, cooking and team/quiz games.
