Description
Action for Blind People is a national charity with local reach, providing practical help and support to blind and partially sighted people of all ages. We listen, we understand, we act. Action speaks louder for nearly 30,000 visually impaired people every year, always placing their needs at the heart of everything we do. We support these individuals in many aspects of their lives and help them to find the right services and products they need to live independently.
Action works with other expert organisations to draw on a wide range of skills and resources. Our close relationship with RNIB enables us to provide a unique combination of complementary strengths and expertise to help an ever increasing number of people with sight loss. Please see our separate Connect To Support directory entries to read about our Independent Living Coordinator (Advocacy and Volunteers) and Eye Clinic Liaison Officer services based in Rotherham.
Employment
Action for Blind People has skilled employment advisers who provide specialist support and advice to blind and partially sighted people. We assist in a diverse range of employment issues, which covers everything from helping people to find employment, to starting up a business, and supporting employees so that they can stay in their jobs after losing their sight.
As a consequence of sight loss, people are often regarded as unsuitable or unable to work in some cases they are even considered a problem for employers. We address these misapprehensions and work closely with employers and employees to demonstrate how, with the right advice and support, skilled and experienced blind and partially sighted people can continue in the jobs of their choice.
Our employment advisers offer practical support in helping people in their search for jobs and advise them on ways of gaining work experience. We provide advice and guidance on how to make the most of individual skills and help with job searching techniques. We can also help with confidence building and interview techniques, and offer information on supported employment, the Access to Work scheme and other kinds of support at work.
