Description
Breathing Space runs free weekly drop-in sessions for carers in Tower Hamlets on Tuesdays at 11.15am - 12.45pm. These give you the chance to try out relaxation and meditation (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) in the tranquil environment of the London Buddhist Centre, make new friendships with other carers and enjoy a nice cup of tea!
We also have Retreats for carers Breathing Space which run two-night retreats for carers at our beautiful retreat centre in Suffolk.
These retreats can give you:
- A complete break from your caring role.
- New skills and strategies to use in your daily lives to help manage stress and to look after yourself. The chance to make new friends - helping you deal with any feelings of isolation that can come with being a carer.
- Time to relax, enjoy the countryside, make friends and have fun!
What happens on the retreat? There will be a relaxing daily programme of activities designed to help you de-stress, wind down and look after yourself. The programme includes tuition in meditation and mindfulness, massage/alternative therapist treatments, and other activities that help manage stress and tension. The day starts with a wake-up bell at 7.30 followed by gentle warm-up exercises and an introduction to a simple meditation technique. Periods of meditation and supporting therapies follow, as well as free time to explore the lovely surrounding countryside.
Eligibility for the retreat If you live in Tower Hamlets and spend a substantial amount of time looking after a family member or friend who can't manage alone, you may be entitled to funding from your local council to go on a Breathing Space retreat.
