Description
Participants will be provided with the knowledge and understanding to confidently manage an individual budget. Participants will enjoy the varied content the course has to offer in the form of activities, presentations, debate and case studies.
Aims
• Understand how to read and implement a support plan
• Understand how to manage someone’s or your own personal budget and support package
• Gain an understanding of how to implement Brokerage Management in your area (be prepared for regional differences)
• Understand the importance of ensuring the person is kept at centre of their own budget, decisions and support package
• Understand how to recruit a meaningful circle of support and how this can help you get the best out of your managed budget
• Have an understanding of staff management e.g. Conducting appraisals, supervision, disciplinary, time sheets, PAYE etc.
• Gain and understanding of financial management and book keeping.
• Be ready for financial year end and auditing by the council, funders etc.
• Awareness of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and making best interest decisions
Learning Outcomes
Learners will have the opportunity to
• Have an understanding of choice and ensuring the individual and their chosen circle are leading all decisions regarding their individual budget and how they want to be supported
• To design a support plan and explore how to implement it
• use example support plans and case studies to learn how to manage and maintain a personal budget
• compare how different authorities work and how to adapt to their different requirements while still understanding the fundamentals of self directed support
• gain an insight into the tools and skills to ensuring a person centred service, e.g. introduction to person centred planning
• develop their own circle of support and learn how to implement this within brokerage management
• explore best practices in supporting the team who the learner will be managing
• to audit their fellow learners support plans developed during the course
• conduct a capacity test and explore outcomes that are least restrictive and in the persons best interest
Who is This For
This course is for those who are interested in how to provide management input for anyone directing their own package of support. The course will provide a fuller understanding of self directed support as well as provide the tools to enable you to support someone. You could be an individual who wants to broker his or her own support, or someone wishing to offer independent management input an organisation that wants to take part in self directed support.
