Description
Definition
Behavioural support to families in need of a break/respite. This can include support with Hospital and Dental Appointments, Family Holiday break, Weekend break, or simply a ‘babysitter’ for a night out.
Aims/Outcomes
Psychological well-being of a parent/carer is paramount in maintaining a healthy and happy life style. Often families of individuals with learning difficulties and/ or challenging behaviour, struggle to find somebody with the knowledge and experience to support in the above situations. These sessions can also be used as behaviour analysis, with feedback and advice provided.
Process
A ‘get to know you’ visit will first take place, where the member of staff is introduced, and a questionnaire is completed about the young person. The young person may also be introduced at this time. Then the family have the opportunity to decide whether they wish to go ahead before a session is planned.
