Description

Caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s can seem overwhelming at times, and it can be a difficult and scary journey, for everyone involved. Each day can bring new challenges and experiences as the caregiver tries to cope with the changing levels of ability and new patterns of behaviour.

As in any demanding situation, the better you care for yourself, the better you will be able to care for your loved one. The more information and support you have, the better you can navigate the demanding road ahead. We are here to help you understand and consider the long-term care options that are best suited to you and your loved one.

Our specially trained staff can provide support from a few hours a week, to 24 hour live-in care, depending on your needs. We can arrange for a meeting with our Care Manager who will help you evaluate what sort of tasks you’d like help with and what hours and regularity will best suit your current needs.

As the symptoms of dementia or Alzheimer’s progress, the person becomes more emotionally fragile. At first, there may be the sense of grief and dread that accompanies the awareness of having a progressive, terminal illness. During this early stage of the disease, caregivers can promote the patient’s sense of well-being by providing emotional support and by helping to maintain familiar activities and social contacts.

Eventually though, the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is forgotten and the ability to be rational fades. Logical thinking can no longer be used to help alleviate fear and confusion. As problems with memory and judgment increase, the patient becomes more vulnerable to accidents and injuries. Problem behaviours develop that place the person at increased risk of getting lost or getting hurt. Caregivers must hone communication skills and make changes to the home environment in anticipation of the problems of mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease. Here at Guardian Angel Carer’s our team of compassionate carers will do everything to ensure you or your loved ones are safeguarded and protected at all times. We appreciate how challenging and emotional a time this can be for all involved and we will help you every step of the way.

Please note the price shown is a typical cost for this service and is dependent on your individual needs and requirements. Once these have been discussed we can confirm a price.
