Our Short Break Units
Leading Lives Short Break Respite Units are registered with the Care Quality Commission. They are designed to support family carers by providing a much needed break from their caring responsibilities.
We are also able to respond quickly in times of crisis and accommodate referrals at short notice, providing a family with valuable breathing space at difficult times.

A stay in one of our short break services gives customers the chance to enjoy time away from the day-to-day routine and to experience different surroundings and activities.
Customers can make their own choices about what they want to do in a safe and supported environment, although well trained and compassionate teams, facilitate and support activities for our guests enjoyment.
This increased choice and flexibility enables people using our services to develop more independent living skills.

As well as shared living areas everyone has their own room and are encouraged to have their personal items with them to make their stay as familiar and comfortable as possible.
Our Short break units have specialist facilities and equipment to cater for the needs of people with physical and multiple disabilities. Experienced teams understand and respond sensitively to people, which has developed a relationship of trust and understanding with individuals and their family carers.
Our Short Break Units are places where people can feel safe, make and meet friends and experience new things.

Individuals who stay at our Short Break Units on Week Nights - Monday to Thursday are required to access day services or book Community Support for the following day

When John Turner House is open?
John Turner House is open in the week: Mondays to Thurs 3.30pm - 9.30am each night
Please note that Unit is closed during the day and Day Care needs to be arranged separately.
The Unit is also open at Weekends from 3.30pm Fri Through to 11.30 am Monday - These nights are charged and booked separately.

What John Turner House has to offer?
John Turner House is situated in the heart of Lowestoft, within walking distance of the town centre and Local Beach. The JTH site is situated next to the Lowestoft Community Hub which offers a wide range of activities throughout the day.

John Turner House is a ground floor building offering 7 bedrooms, all decorated differently to offer a home away from home feel. All bedrooms have their own Television. 2 Bedrooms offer an ensuite bathroom and Ceiling track hoists. John Turner house offers a range of bathrooms and a shower room. We have 2 lounges both with their own TV’s, DVD players and games consoles, there is free wi fi throughout the building and access to a computer and Ipad. We have a spacious Kitchen and dining room with rise and fall worktops so that everyone is able to participate in cooking and baking.

John Turner house offers themed weeks each month ranging from The Great Outdoors, Adrenalin week and Gardening week. John Turner House offers a range of Indoor activities and arts crafts. We also offer a range of outdoor activities making good use of our location, Pleasure wood hills, Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, Swimming, Bowling, Cinema, Trips to the beach and amusements, Local pubs, Oulton Broad and Southwold to name but a few.

John Turner House attends Chicago’s nightclub once a month for their disabled nightclub experience stopping off for a kebab on the way home.

John Turner house is committed to developing people’s Independent living skills but also to ensure that all people staying have a holiday experience and are enabled to have fun and enjoy activities of their choosing.

Leading Lives staff work in person centred ways to support and promote people to achieve their aspirations and remain as independent as they are able.

Support needs are assessed when you register with the service and individual packages and programmes agreed to best suit your needs and aspirations. Individual bookings are also compatibility matched before confirmation.
