Dementia Care
AtPersonalized Care Services we understand the increasing difficulties people have with conditions such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s face whilst trying to remember things, communicate with others and do the everyday personal tasks for themselves. Dementia, Alzheimer’s and related illnesses are progressive biological brain disorders that can have a deteriorating effect on the quality of life of people it affects. There are many different types of dementia, the most common conditions are Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia. Less common types are Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) and Fronto Temporal Dementia (FTD). Various factors increase the risk of someone developing dementia, such as ageing, genes, health and lifestyle. Most people with dementia are over 65 years of age, but dementia can and does affect younger people too. Dementia isn’t a natural part of ageing, it occurs when a disease affects the brain. The challenges our loved ones face can be complex. For people who suffer from Dementia, day to day memory and orientation is one of those challenges, therefore our staff are trained to understand routine in the lives of people we support is an essential aspect. Our care and support staff are fully trained. At the assessment stage, we work with the person we pair appropriately trained staff with, and know that routine, familiarity and consistency and staff support are important to provide the right support. A friendly positive person coming to visit each morning and at other times during the day can be a huge comfort for people. Our caring staff gradually build a meaningful rapport with people using approaches known to have positive affects for people with these conditions. Our staff are aware of how people can sometimes struggle to remember or recall names, how confusing and overwhelmed someone can feel with numerous choices they have to make throughout a course of a day. Our staff are always sympathetic, and show the real compassion when supporting people. Staff visits are a real source of comfort of the people we support.
Personalized Care Services works tirelessly with the people we support to ensure people remain in familiar surroundings with people who they love for as long as Is possible.
