Description

A full 5 day training course covering all the areas of knowledge needed to successfully fulfil the function of a support broker. During the course we will look at the following areas, negotiation and mediation, information advice and guidance, support planning, sign posting.

The aims of the training are:
• To have an understanding of Individual/Personal budgets
• To understand the beliefs and values of self directed support
• To have a greater understanding of the support brokerage function and where it sits within the wider community
• To gain an understanding of the principles and mechanics of support planning and how this relates within your local area
• To understand the different dynamic of centrally directed support and self directed support and where brokerage fits

Learning Outcomes
Participants will be provided with knowledge and understanding of Support Brokerage and Support Planning through information, activity and example.

Learners will have the opportunity to:
• Consider the different people or groups of people who could arrange support (e.g. individual, family, Individual Service Funds, broker, care manager, community)
• Have an understanding of choice and ensuring the individual and their chosen circle are leading on the outcomes of their plan
• Adopt a view of a person’s community to identify the resources available within and the natural connections to be made
• Learn about and use person centred planning / support planning tools
• Have an appreciation that needs can often be most effectively met by acknowledging wishes and aspirations first
• Be confident in your approach to developing a support plan, including the budget breakdown
• Learn the background, history and policy context to self directed support
• Become knowledgeable on how the Resource Allocation System (RAS) works in your area and the steps between RAS to review
• Create a Working Party Agreement to define roles, responsibilities and expectation
• Understanding of self directed tendering and moving from a plan into a real life experience
• Examine and work with process and law in relation to risk enablement understanding The Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Safeguarding in a self directing framework

Who is This For
This course is for those who are interested in the function of Support Brokerage and will provide a fuller understanding of self directed support as well as provide the tools to enable people to start to broker support. You could be an individual who wants to broker his or her own support or someone starting on the path of being an independent support broker, peer broker or an organisation that wants to take part in self directed support.
