Description
The Aldingbourne Country Centre (or ACC) is based near Fontwell. We are the original Aldingbourne Trust project and have been providing vocational training within a commercial environment to people with learning disabilities since 1978.
Today we offer a rich mix of activities and social enterprises to our Clients so that they can learn at their own pace about things that interest and stimulate them. Clients can choose to learn about hospitality & catering, horticulture, wood recycling and workshop activities, organic food production, retailing, wood recycling, furniture restoration, community gardening, horse rug washing or even learn how to care for animals in our open farm. Activities are mainly centred on work based training and designed to equip our Clients with the necessary skills to make them more independent and able to move towards employment. Therapeutic options are also available to Clients who do not wish to engage in work based training but still want to join in activities at the Centre. These include our Access Music and Digital Media groups. We link with other projects and organisations to provide additional opportunities for our Clients in areas such as sport and recreational activities a s well as work experience.
Although the needs of our Clients naturally come first, we have to be self-sustaining so each activity is designed to contribute towards the running costs of ACC. The Centre provides real working opportunities for our Clients, and the goods and services they produce have value and quality. Clients can see that through their efforts and skills they are directly contributing to the sustainability of the Centre and helping to ensure we can continue to offer these opportunities to others in the future. The Centre has expanded by adding an Open Farm and Children’s play area, to create more real work experience opportunities and a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere as well as a visitor attraction.
