Broad Horizons Social Care allows people to maintain and develop friendships, be fully socially included, learn new skills, participate in fun and engaging activities and enjoy social outings.

Our on-site activity portfolio is delivered in our multi-function rooms. We deliver activities such as WEA tutor led craft sessions run on various days throughout the week. These craft based sessions are themed around the calendar year for example Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer Holidays Halloween & Christmas.

Other on-site activities that we deliver are life-style baking groups, Games & Quizzes (both individual & team events), Bingo (free to enter- all prizes provided) potato printing, pebble painting, making bird feeders, paper arts & crafts, indoor sports, crayon & pencil work, pasta crafts, table games & activities, picture frame decoration, wooden crafts (both making & painting), reminiscing (done by DVD & literature) sewing knitting & needlework, canvas painting & plant pot decorating.

We also do a pet Therapy session where some of our clients are taken for a local walk with one of the support workers dogs- this has proved a very popular activity!.

To complement our on-site offer we actively deliver more ‘out and about’ in the community led activities. Having our own minibus allows us to travel that bit further afield to places of interest. For example las year we had trips to Emmerdale near Bradford, day trips to Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast, a day out at Eden Camp near Malton, Moortop Farm near Pontefract and closer to home we have visited the Rotherham Civic for the Christmas pantomime, the ‘Great Outdoors’ (animals & wildlife) at Thorpe Hesley and the Mayor’s parlour in Rotherham.

We have exciting plans afoot to deliver more of these out and about days this year.

We have a strong presence in the local community where we often frequent local cafes and public houses for our meals as well as visiting local shops and markets building up friendships with local people and other organisations. We have formed a good relationship with a local public house which we have used several times to celebrate events such as Christmas / Easter / and special occasion parties such as our first anniversary. We also use this and similar establishments to play traditional pub games such as darts and pool which are always popular pursuits with our customers.

We are just in the process of finalising a new package of community led activities. We are running a gym activity / keep fit session as well as a multi- sports day in a purpose-built sports arena. All of the sporting activities will be overseen by our qualified sports coach. We are additionally running a ten-pin bowling session as well as a swimming group and for the academic type we are looking to produce a newsletter to keep everybody informed about what we are doing. The good thing to remember about all of our sporting activities is that Broad Horizons pays the admission cost for the customer, for example whether that be swimming, bowling or a gym session- just turn-up and bring your kit.

For the keen ‘green fingers’ type out there we are looking to run a gardening group where we will involve ourselves in various low-level maintenance projects supporting key establishments within the community.

All of the onsite activity / when we are ‘out and about’ is showcased on display boards within our rooms. To complement these boards each one of our customers have their own photograph album which detail specific activities that they have been involved in which provides a good visual reference and makes for a good discussion.
