This course will look at how to become a good and valued support worker, ensuring you are working in a person centered way. We will take you through good and bad practices, what to expect and the emotions you may go through working with individuals and their family’s/carers.

• How to make the most of your time when supporting someone
• How to support a person to create a life they are happy with, without taking over
• How to help you understand a persons wants and needs
• How to record good information, involving the person in a meaningful way and avoiding paperwork overload
• How to engage with other people in the persons life to create the best outcome for the individual, i.e. families, social worker, GP
• To have an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and decision making agreements
