Description

Great value, healthy food for everyone and employment training for people with a learning disability.

Waverley Cafe is downstairs at Waverley Hall. The café is open to the public with the staff there working alongside trainees with a learning disability to serve a wide range of cheap and healthy food.

The cafe is open from 10.00am to 2.00pm, Tuesday to Friday.

The café is on one level and is fully accessible to people who use a wheelchair.

The café has achieved the highest score possible from Kirklees for its Food Hygiene standards. It has also been awarded the Gold Healthy Eating award for the quality of its food.

If you are following a special diet then they will be able to cater for you in the cafe. Cake and outside catering orders are also welcome and these too can be made for special diets such as low sugar or gluten free.

We have two computers in the cafe that are connected to the internet. If you need some help using them then the staff and trainees should be able to help. The staff can also help with lots of other things like finding out what services are available for yourself or someone you support, reading and explaining any letters you are not sure about and support with choosing the right foods for healthy eating.

If you call in and the staff are busy or if you need more information then a manager from Waverley is always available upstairs. Just let the café staff know and one of us will call down.

Being a trainee in Waverley Café
To train in the cafe you need to have a learning disability and be planning on moving on from the cafe into more training, paid work or volunteering. While you are at the cafe you will be working towards a qualification that can make that easier. As well as learning how to clean, cook and serve food there will also be lots of time for you to chat to customers and this can be good for helping you increase your confidence.

Each trainee spends around 6 months in the café and during that time the qualified staff support them to complete their ASDAN Entry Level 2 in Employability. ASDAN qualifications are nationally recognised and they aim to recognise people’s vocational skills.

If you are interested in training in the cafe then you can call in when the cafe is open or you can ring Matthew on 01484 340811 or submit an information request outlining your requirements and we will respond.
